Neuroseeds Teacher Workshop

The Neuroseeds Summer Teacher Workshops are part of a research study based on our awesome science curriculum related to neuroscience and medicinal plants. Project staff and field experts guide teachers through teaching labs, class discussions and related field experiences. We will not be conducting a teacher workshop in 2020.

    • Teachers who attended past workshops received a $1000 stipend, or 30 clock hours and $940, and were eligible to check out a Neuroseeds kit for 12 weeks for use in their classroom. The kits contain all the equipment, supplies and lesson plans necessary to implement our lab activities. The lessons are aligned to the Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards.Labs and supplies for 8 lessons:Introduction to Neuroscience

    • Plant Extracts

    • Chromatography

    • Planarian Movement

    • Planarian Regeneration

    • Spiker Box

    • Heart Rate in Lumbriculus Worms

    • Anti-bacterial plants

The project’s goal is to empower teachers with a strong foundation in neuroscience literacy and enhanced science practices & instructional skills. Workshop lessons have been developed using the 5E instructional model: engage, explore, explain, elaborate and evaluate! They are aligned with Washington State Science Standards and designed to engage middle school students in science and present related career options for "a life of science!"
