The Research Process

The research process is how we develop scientific knowledge. In the activities of this program you follow many of the steps of a scientific investigation. Not all investigations are the same. For example an investigation does not always require doing an experiment. Sometimes we just observe nature or collect data that has already been collected for another reason. Here are some steps that generally followed in doing an investigation.

    • Asking a question

    • Exploring current knowledge

    • Planning a study or experiment

    • Conducting the study or experiment

    • Analyzing and representing the data

    • Drawing conclusions

    • Peer Review

    • Communicating the results.
