Brine Shrimp- Artemia

Brine shrimp are small arthropods which can survive very salty water. They grow from eggs called cysts which survive dry conditions for 2 years. When the cysts are placed in salt water they hatch within a few hours. Brine shrimp live off microscopic planktonic algae. They are often used for toxicological studies.
