What's the deal with tasks?
When you join an org, you can choose a profession. You'll then be able to do tasks that help your org out.
But why?
Well, it gives your org reputation points, so that helps in the ranking. (Orgs also get reputation points from the donation of animals.) It costs the org money, though; some orgs choose to ignore tasks because they don't want to spend the money. Some orgs may ask members to donate money to pay for any tasks they complete. Your org might give you some guidelines on how often you should do tasks.
As far as your own personal motivation to do tasks, there's basically none whatsoever. If you hit level three or six on one of your buildings, it'll look cooler. That's nice. (If you want to see how upgraded buildings look, click here.)
Professions
The professions are Shipper, Mechanic, Veterinary, and Environmental Officer.
Shippers are important because when people donate animals, shippers move them into the preserves. Shippers have the most tasks, and the shortest ones; it's hardest to level up as a shipper (because the tasks generally aren't worth much in the way of work experience) but it's probably the most important profession.
Mechanics fix stuff around the preserves, but most importantly they also fix everyone else's buildings. That's a crucial role. (But who fixes mechanics? Shippers do.)
Veterinarians heal sick animals; that's important because when an animal is sick it's removed from the preserves, so your org won't get reputation points for them until they're healed. When a lot of animals are sick, your org's reputation could suffer!
Environmental Officers are frankly not important at all; your org probably has the fewest of these for good reason. It's also the easiest profession to level up in; periodically you'll get massive tasks worth like 500 points.
Picking a profession costs money!
Your initial choice costs $5,000 - and it costs $15,000 to build the building!
How do you do tasks?
- Once you've chosen a profession, click on your profession's building.
Shipper - > Distribution Center (the one with the truck)
Mechanic -> Garage (the top left one)
Veterinary -> Animal Clinic (the one with the red cross)
Environmental Officer -> Greenhouse (the one that looks like a greenhouse)
- Then click the "Tasks" tab near the top. You'll see a list of available tasks. If there's a big green "Accept" button, you can do the task.
- Once you click "Accept", the timer starts to count down. Once it gets to zero, click "Complete" and you're all done!
- You can click "Complete" before it's done, and complete the task immediately by paying diamonds. This is insane. Don't ever do this.
- Mechanics, Veterinarians and Environmental Officers will often have three tasks that involve visiting other peoples' zoos. They'll say things like "A few of [some person]'s animals/plants/buildings need attention." These tasks are lame; they cost a lot ($1500) and they're only worth 15 rep. Most orgs ignore those tasks and you probably should too.
Do not do this task; it is lame.
- It costs you nothing to do tasks. All you have to do is click "Accept", wait until the timer runs down, then click "Complete". That's the end of the story.
A note on completing tasks
Please don't accept a task and then wander away for like three days. Your fellow org members may be waiting on that task to complete! This is especially important when you're fixing someone's building for them (as a mechanic or shipper). There are also many jobs that include several tasks - for instance, shipping animals to the animal clinic, healing them, and shipping them back. Your org will be frustrated with you if you don't complete your tasks in a more-or-less timely fashion. You don't have to watch the clock! Just try to complete your task within a few hours of when the timer runs out.
Fixing your building
Doing tasks will cause the condition of your building to slowly deteriorate. You can check on your building's condition here:
When it gets too low, you won't be able to do tasks anymore. At some point, you should click the "Call Mechanic" button ("Call Shipper" if you're a mechanic) and have someone else from your org fix your building. Some orgs prefer you to wait 'til you're below 50% before calling for repairs; ask your org if they have guidelines for this.
How many tasks should I do?
Up to you. Your org will generally have around 30 tasks available at any time. When you complete tasks, new ones will appear periodically - seems like every half hour or so. So you're never going to run out of tasks. If you leave tasks alone - for instance, if you never do those lame "visit someone's zoo" tasks - they won't keep piling up; they'll just sit there.
Task Priority
You may see 1 - 3 stars next to a task:
These are usually set by your org's administrators. You should prioritize the higher-starred tasks. Higher-priority tasks will show up first on your list, so you don't have to think too hard about this.\\
Changing professions
You can do this once every 24 hours, and it costs $5,000. You might want to change professions if, for example, someone just donated a ton of animals; shippers might need help for a while. Or, maybe you're just bored.
You can change more frequently than every 24 hours in exchange for diamonds, but again, this is insane; don't do this. You won't lose your levels if you change professions - like if you're a level 2 mechanic and switch to shipping for a while, then return to mechanic, you're still a level 2 mechanic.
Changing orgs
Your levels will stay where they are if you switch orgs. If you're at level 3 shipping and level 2 mechanic with one org, and then you quit and join another org, you'll still be at level 3 shipping and level 2 mechanic.
Leveling your building up
Any time you do a task, your organization gets rep points and you get work experience points. (The formula: work experience = about 60% of org rep points.) When you get enough work experience points, you can level your building up.
Leveling up fees:
Level 1 (just starting out): $15,000 to build the building
Level 2: $25,000 (5,000 points needed)
Level 3: $100,000
Level 4: $330,000 (25,000 points)
Level 5: $800,000 (30,000 points)
If you have all the points you need to upgrade, but you don't upgrade right away, you do continue to accrue work experience - so when you finally do upgrade, you'll find yourself already on the way to your next upgrade. (If that makes sense.)
Why level up?
No reason. You get a 5% bonus, but who cares? It's just something to do. Again, at level three your buildings will look cooler.
