Wolves in Literature
Wolves are a common animal in literature, generally representing implacable nature, "red of tooth and claw," as Tennyson would say. My favorite is Joan Aiken's young adult book Wolves of Willoughby Chase (1962). Other books featuring wolves include Jack London's 1906 White Fang; Farley Mowat's wonderful Never Cry Wolf (1963); and Jean Craighead George's Julie of the Wolves (1972).
