The sheep is a medium-sized animal whose white coat adds nice variety to a zoo. With their inexpensive cost and small space requirements, there's simply no reason to exclude the sheep despite their low popularity.
The domestic sheep has been raised for food, milk and wool for at least 10,000 years. Sheep wool is the most widely used animal fiber, found in everything from yarn and clothing to insulation and stereo speakers.
Sheep are naturally docile creatures, preferring flight to fight unless cornered. Often perceived as stupid animals due to their flocking tendencies and willingness to follow flock leaders without hesitation, sheep are actually fairly intelligent, able to recognize individual faces of both other animals and humans as well as recall past experiences for several years. Left to their own devices, most sheep will bond with a "best friend" in their flock and demonstrate extreme distress if separated.
