NOV 21 & 22: Read text book pgs 720-723 & 811-812, take notes on Japan’s expansions: Why? When? Where? What did Japan gain? Use quotes to answer simulation questions.

NOV 25 & 26 For Homework: Read packet “The Need For Emigration and Expansion” pgs. 10-11, Record 3 quotes that demonstrate this “need”. Is it fair that they West is imperialistic, but frowns on Japan's expansion? Use quotes to answer simulation questions.

Nov 27 & DEC 2: read handout "The Path to War in the Pacific" use to answer Japan Scored Discussion Questions.

Alternative: Read packet pgs 18-19, Read the timeline in the packet pages 31-32 and Read packet, pgs 27-28, the “World at War” . Complete remaining Seminar questions. Use evidence/ quotes from the reading for your answers.

For Homework, please read NEW packet "Ending the War in Japan" pages 10-14 on "The War in the Pacific" for next class.

If you were absent today you need to write a response (from your character’s point of view) addressing the following two proposals:

Proposal A

The Japanese army agrees to withdraw all troops from China by 1966. Including those left as defense against communism in 1966.

If the US rejects proposal A, than Japan might offer:

Proposal B

Japan promises not to make any more aggressive moves south into Indonesia or Indochina.

Once peace is restored with China, or in the Pacific, all troops will be pulled out of Indochina.

In the meantime, Japan would at once move all troops in south Indochina into the north of that country.

In return, the United States was to sell Japan one million tons of aviation gasoline.
