Story Quilt Project

We have now completed TWO successful projects in Fibers and Dyes: the Mola, inspired by the Kuna Indians of Panama, and a beautiful woven bag which proved to be challenging and fun for everyone!

Our current F&D project has ties to Black History Month AND Textile/Fiber Arts: We are studying the work of textile artist Faith Ringgold! Ringgold built upon the ages-old quiltmaking traditions of African-Americans, and elevated this craft to a true art form with her "Story Quilts," which combine fabric, painting, and storytelling.

Working from personal memories and heritage, students are now busy cutting and stitching their own story quilts! Attached is the powerpoint presentation of Faith Ringgold and the Story Quilt project.
