Current Project: The art of the Kuna!

After learning about the native Kuna people of Panama, we are going to create our first Fibers and Dyes project, a brightly colored mola made from cut construction paper. Here are some examples of Kuna molas:

You will need to get the instructions from me at school. If you are homebound this week and can not complete this project, you may submit a 2-page report on the Kuna people. Include their beliefs, heritage, culture, and art.

If you prefer, you may use crayons or paints to paint a replica of a mola at home.

Themes you must consider are:

BALANCE of the composition: Notice how the above pieces are balances. The left is more symmetrical than the right which is assymetrical, but they are both BALANCED.

COLOR: Look at the color scheme which the artisan has used.

THEME: Native birds, plants, are typically depicted (shown). You may use a similar native bird/plant, or you may use something which is native to YOU or your culture!
