AARON DOUGLAS

Aaron Douglas was a Harlem Renaissance painter who used a very trademark style. Monochromatic colors, strong elements of value, shape, and line, and African American themes are all apparent in his work. Douglas moved to Nashville and founded the art department at Fisk University, where he worked until retirement. Douglas's work is present throughout Fisk, especially in Corvath Hall where many rooms are hand painted with beautiful murals by Douglas.
