Jacob Dhote

Current position

I am a psychiatrist and currently also a PhD student under the supervision of Dr Fabien Vincker at the Motivation, Brain and Behavior team at the Brain & Spine Institute (ICM).

Current project

The aim of my PhD project is to develop a model of the development of delusions of persecution in patients with schizophrenia by using a new experimental paradigm that implicates the interpretation of ambiguous social cues.

Our main goal is to characterize how these aberrant beliefs can be investigated in the Bayesian framework as an impairment of the way the priors an the sensory evidence are combined, and to determine the neural correlates of theses abnormalities.

During this PhD I will work with stabilized patients with schizophrenia, both to characterize trait abnormalities and to study how delusions are maintained and updated in the long term. I will also work with subjects receiving ketamine, a pharmacological agent that recreates what patients experience at the beginning of the disease, when delusions are likely to first develop.
