Socrative is an interesting tool to use in the classroom. It is a tool specifically designed to make short answer and multiple choice mini quizzes for students to take on their iPads, computers, or smart phones. Socrative is very easy to use. All the teachers need is to make an account, and they would be able to begin to make quizzes. Teachers could chose if the test is multiple choice, short answer, or true/false. There are also options designed for teachers to make specific activities for exit tickets, or a space race which would make their quiz into a game.
Once the quiz is created, the teacher just needs to give out the classroom number so students can input it in their app to begin the quiz. The teacher can choose to make it teacher or student paced. Socrative will show the teacher how many students are in the class and how many of them have finished the quiz or question. When the quiz is finished, the teacher can download the score report. The score report will show the answers each student gave, and even give a grade for multiple choice question quizzes.
As a practice run, I made a quiz based on the Kindergarten standard L.K.5. With guidance and support from adults, explore wordrelationships and nuances in word meanings. My quiz was five questions and was taken by eight students in my class. I've added a graphic of my score report here! If I was using this information in my classroom, I would realize that I needed to go back and review words that mean the opposite of other words as well as synonyms. Those two questions were the ones that were missed the most in my quiz. This quiz is great to inform instruction.
In the classroom, I would love to use this. I think it would be best to use it in the upper grades, maybe third through fourth grade. I made my quiz one with a kindergarten standard, but if used in Kindergarten, it would need to be taken as a class. I would really like to use this as an exit ticket or a quick quiz at the beginning of a lesson to assess prior knowledge and inform my teaching. It's a great, simple assessment that doesn't take a lot of time, but give extremely valuable information!
