This time in my experimenting of new technologies, I made two videos using GoAnimate. This is a great program allowing for great quality videos to be created even by those who aren't as technologically inclined. It's extremely simple. You simply pick your setting, choose your two characters and write in what you want them to say. The only thing you need to worry about when using it is writing your script! Once you've finished you can watch your video and see how your two characters talk to each other. I chose to do two math videos for different age levels. The first is a Kindergarten video about learning to count even when you don't start at one. The common core standard for this is: K.CC. 2. Count forward beginning at a given number within the known sequence (instead of having to begin at 1). The second is a second grade math video about counting money. I chose to focus on coins because I think that converting coins to dollars is extremely difficult. The common core standard for this is: 2. MD. 8. Solve word problems involving dollar bills, quarters, dimes, nickles and pennies using $ and ¢ appropriately.
For the second grade video I used the voices that were offered on the site. I had absolutely no trouble making this video. It was quick and easy! When I recorded my own voice for the kindergarten video however, it presented its own challenges. Since I was only using my laptop, there was a lot of feedback on my recording. In the future if I was do use my own voice or that of a friend, I would have to find a way to record without all the trouble of the feedback. Other than that, it was pretty much the same easy process. I'm definitely looking forward to using this in my classroom because I think it could be used as a great tool to review or to introduce a lesson!
