Our first project for this class involved using the Google apps that are found in Google Drive. We discussed in class how it would be a great technology tool to use Google Forms to create little quizzes for students online. Not only could we easily make a multiple choice quiz, you can also easily send the responses to a spreadsheet and use a program to grade it! All you need to do, is go to Google drive and click create. If you select Form, it brings you to a page where you can select a theme for the project. Once selected, all you need to do is add the questions you want to ask along with the answers. You can make the answers multiple choice or you can provide an open text box. The only drawback with an open text box is that you can't have the program grade it. Once the form is finished, you would share the link with whoever needed to take the quiz. In order to grade it, you must also take it yourself. Google will ask you if you want the responses to go to a new spreadsheet, which is exactly how it should be formatted. From the responses spreadsheet, you can run a script called Flubaroo. Once you select the "answer key" the script will run and tell you who got which questions correct, or incorrect and also give you statistics about each question. It does this within seconds! From the actual form, you can also look at the responses in a graph view. It will give you specific data for each question.
After practicing with my own quiz made for a Kindergarten Math class, I created a Google Presentation summarizing all of the data. Google Presentation is similar to Microsoft PowerPoint and was very user friendly. Below, I have embedded my Google Form and my Google Presentation which summarizes my data from my classmates taking my quiz.
I could easily see myself using these tools in the classroom. The tools were very user friendly, and because they are on the Google Drive, they can be accessed from any computer without having to upload them. Google also automatically saves any changes so you never need to worry about losing work. I would like to use the Google Forms as a survey tool in my classroom, and depending on the age of my students, and the technology available, it could be a great tool to get a look at where my students are on certain topics. It would give me a chance to see what I would need to go over and reteach. I also would like to use the Google Presentations in my classroom!
