For my creative lesson, I decided to try using Kahoot. I'm always looking for formative assessment data, and I thought this might be a good way to try it. Kahoot is a very engaging tool for quizzing students, giving surveys and asking discussion questions. I experimented with the quiz side of it to give a vocabulary review game that all my students can participate in. Kahoot is very easy to use. You simply create an account, and create a quiz. When you create the quiz, the first step is to give it a name. Once a name is chosen, your next task is to create the questions. You can create as many questions as you'd like, and you can have more than one correct answer which is a wonderful feature. Once you type in your question, scroll down and enter in your answer choices. It gives you four as a default, but you can take some of those away. Then you simply choose which one(s) are correct. When you're finished, you give some last details and you're done! When you decide to start your quiz, you project it on the board and it will give players a game code to join. Then, you pace the quiz and they get the options to answer. Between each question, it shows you a leader board, making it competitive and engaging. At the end, the game tells the winner and you can download details on each participant!
Kahoot allows for the teacher to get data on each and every student. I decided to use this as a "check-in" on my students' vocabulary before their quiz. I created a quiz on all of their words. I normally play a review game with them where they are on teams. It does tend to get very competitive but I have noticed lately that they're a little bored with it. I thought Kahoot would be a fun way to get each student involved. The coolest thing about Kahoot is that students can take the quizzes on a phone, tablet or computer! My students each have a school computer that they have from the school which will ensure that each student can participate. I am really looking forward to trying this out with my students this week. I think they will really enjoy it and I will be able to tell them which words they need to focus on when studying! Check out my Kahoot to see what my students are working on!
Unfortunately, my school is a little behind on technology as of late and I have not gotten the chance to actually use Kahoot with my
students. But I took the quiz quickly to show what the results looked like. It allowed me to see and overview of how many questions my students got correct and incorrect right off the bat and gave a detailed view of what answer choice I chose, and whether it was correct or incorrect. Having this kind of detail on every student makes it a wonderful formative assessment tool. If a large amount of students got the same question wrong, you know you need to go back and reteach it.
Kahoot is a great tool for any subject that is being taught. They have a place on their website with many public Kahoots that have been shared that can be used by anyone. It's a great resource for teachers to get an idea of how to use this tool if they are unfamiliar with it.
