Teaching children how to use the internet safely is extremely important. Too many kids will go onto a website that asks for personal information and give it without a second thought. Many kids also end up instant messaging with a stranger who they don't know and can lie about who they are. There are so many internet predators and internet scams that kids don't normally understand. So we have to make it a point to teach them. This project is very real because of how often kids do something on the internet that can put them in danger. This is a unit that I'm sure every teacher will face every year with their students. Especially with how technology is advancing, we will be using the internet more and more as the technology gets better and better. Kids need to know what's safe and what's not when they are using the internet.
I really liked this project because of how important of a topic it is. It'd been a long time since I'd used publisher for anything so the
class session we had on this project was much needed, but it wasn't too hard to get back into the swing of things. One thing I think I had trouble with is the "no white space" rule. I guess because I normally prefer a simpler style, I broke the rule a little. Other than that I didn't have much of a problem with the project. I really liked working with a topic that I will eventually have to teach. It was like a practice run. I'm sure that when this unit comes up, I'll open this brochure up and edit it a little but most definitely use it to send home to parents. Parents and teachers need to unite to help the kids learn how to navigate the internet safely. I'm glad I'll have something I can use to connect with my parents.
