Introduction

Jamestown Elementary School

Jamestown Elementary is a wonderful school located in Jamestown, North Carolina. The school has an incredibly encouraging environment both for staff and for the students. Jamestown wants nothing more than for their students to succeed in all aspects of the school day. From in the classroom, to in the hallway, there are many encouraging factors that make this school unique. As a student teacher, I am lucky to be apart of such a great school where I feel as though I can learn so much from the great faculty.

PBIS Program

As a PBIS school, the teachers and faculty give out P.A.W.S. for positive behavior in public areas. In addition to giving out the P.A.W.S., three winners are picked from each classroom on Fridays (two for in classroom prizes, and one that receives a "Positive PAW" from the principal on Monday). Teachers also submit "shout-outs" that are included in the afternoon and morning announcements by the principal. These extra incentives make individual students feel encouraged to practice good behavior daily. In addition to those individual incentives, the school also allows students to earn Class P.A.W.S. These are given out when all students in the class are exhibiting the proper behavior in the hallway. When the class earns a certain number of Class P.A.W.S. they are given a reward, such as a movie day, or an extra fifteen minutes of recess. The reward increases as the number of Class P.A.W.S. increases. These rewards reinforce the positive behavior and encouraging environment Jamestown Elementary has created. P.A.W.S. are given out when students follow the P.A.W.S. rules which are as follows:

P - Practice self control

A - Act with Kindness

W - Will be Responsible

S - Show respect

School Pledge:

I came to school to learn, and I will learn. I will show respect for myself and others and be responsible for my own behavior. Hand in hand, we can make today a great day!
