MyCreate is an iPad application that allows students to create stop-motion animation videos. It is extremely easy software to use and can be used with all ages. It can be used to animate paper, models, arts and crafts and so much more. All the students need to do to create their videos is to take photos from the iPad either through the application itself or the camera. The photos need to be taken in succession, so that when put together within MyCreate, it makes it look like the object is moving! Students can also overlay music or a recording of their voice to go with the animation.
For our project, we used Sophia to create a tutorial lesson for students. Sophia allows you to create online tutorials that work in place of lessons. It is great for flipped classrooms, students who are absent, or for online assignments. For my class, I decided to use Sophia and MyCreate to do a book trailer project. My students are getting ready to being a literature circle and I thought this would be a fun, interactive group project. I created both a Sophia tutorial for online use, as well as a lesson plan for in class use. I also created an example using The Giver by Lois Lowry. This lesson will not be used in the near future for my students, but is something I am considering going forward provided I get the approval from my administration.
My tutorial introduced the project, provided a step by step instruction on how to use MyCreate, and then provided a grading rubric. It also included my sample video to give the kids an idea of what they will be expected to create.
Attached below is the lesson plan I created for when I would use this lesson in the classroom. It contains the requirements for the students, and describes the project. MyCreate is a perfect tool for creating a book trailer and I look forward to using it in the classroom.
