Hi there! My name is Alyssa Springer and I am a recent graduate of the High Point University School of Education. I am a current grade one teacher at Beijing Collegiate Academy in Beijing, China. I recently finished graduate school and earned an M.Ed. in Elementary Education with a concentration in Literacy in May 2015. I grew up in New Jersey, and eventually ended up in Waxhaw, North Carolina. I lived there for seven years before moving to Beijing. I began teaching internationally in August of 2015. I intend to continue to broaden my horizons by teaching internationally for the foreseeable future. I originally started out as an Exercise Science major, but very soon after arriving at High Point I realized that the only thing that would ever make me happy would be to teach. I can only say that my love of stickers and colorful sharpies all the sudden made perfect sense.

Growing up music was a large part of my life. I have been involved in many choirs since I was about five years old, and I haven't missed a year since. I guess where some people write, or paint, I sing away my troubles. Music has always seemed to me to be the language of the heart as so many feelings are expressed through music. I am currently pursing a minor in Vocal Performance, and hope that when I become an elementary school teacher I can have a very musical classroom. I want my future students to see and understand the joy that music can be.

I've been lucky enough to have the opportunity to travel throughout my life so far. During my university studies,

I spent two months in London interning at an international school. I really enjoyed my time abroad where I got to learn not only another culture, but another way of teaching and learning. I spent time there during their regular school year and during an English for Education summer program. While abroad I began an interesting research project that I have been fortunate enough to present at the State of North Carolina Undergraduate Research and Creativity Symposium, the National Conference on Undergraduate Research at the University of Kentucky and at High Point University's Undergraduate Research Conference. I was also fortunate enough to have my research published by the HPU Undergraduate Research Journal. My research focused on comparing the United States Common Core State Standards and the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program. I plan to expand my study by focusing on comparing the Common Core State Standards to the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program. Through this experience I found that I love traveling and experiencing new cultures. This experience was instrumental my beginning my international teaching career. I'm so grateful for the experiences I've had that have affected what I plan to do in life!

I'm so excited to find out where I'll be in just a few years. I hope to be able to enhance the lives of young children as mine was by my elementary school teachers.

Feel free to contact me at anytime!
