Developed over three decades of working with a range of students and professionals these sessions have been enjoyed by scientists, medical students, schools, museum societies and government departments in places as far apart as Kazakhstan, Toulouse and South America.

They are designed to:

motivate people to talk engagingly about their work
inspire confidence
and develop language and storytelling skills

Times and numbers of participants are flexible, but ideally I like to work in sessions of approximately 90 minutes with groups of 15 to 25 people. Usually two or more sessions would be run in a sequence, with a break for tea and biscuits; this gives the time to explore ideas and develop group work. However single sessions are very successful if the timetable is crowded.

The main aims are to:

develop approaches for engaging a wide audience
help to improve presentation and group interaction skills
explore the possibility productive interactions between researchers/professionals and the wider community
examine routes for professionals to actively engage with the public and media
