Martin Coath

Transdisciplinary Researcher, Speaker, and Musician

I started as a chemist, found my way in to computer science, from there in to neuroscience. I have worked in climate change research as (what might be considered) a data scientist, and as part of educational research projects. In parallel I work as a science communicator and help people develop their research and public engagement skills in workshops and CPD sessions.

My workshops, developed over three decades of working with scientists, students and a range of other professionals, are designed to motivate people to talk engagingly about their work, inspire confidence and develop storytelling skills.

I develop projects with people from a wide cross section of different disciplines. The aim is to get everyone to think about science, art, and what it means to be a citizen of a technologically advanced, and creative human community.

I speak at science and music festivals, conferences and a wide range of other venues; and have appeared on BBC Radio, at the Science Museum in London and the Wellcome Trust, and have worked for the Ri, Oxford University and the British Council.

I have been a Famelab finalist and judge, twice winner of 'I'm a Scientist Get Me Out Of Here!' and have written songs for science shows at the Edinburgh Festival.
