Show Report

The annual North West Fife fancy canary club show was once again well supported attracting a total entry of 670 birds from exhibitors from all four corners of the UK. A strong novice entry of 252 birds was particularly encouraging and was dominated by the Herd & Sommerville partnership who took three of the main specials for best novice Variegated, Self Green and Self cinnamon and 2nd Best in the Clear and Self cinnamon specials, their day was completed taking best, 2nd best and 6th best novice - with their best novice pushing hard for best in show.

The main award went to the Clarke & Gillott partnership, Harry and Paul repeating their achievement of last year by winning best champion again, this time with a lovely heavily variegated yellow hen, and then going one better to take the best Fife in show award. In addition they took the colour special for best blue and the 2nd best heavily variegated award. Another partnership who enjoyed their fair share of success was the RobRoy Fifes team, who matched Harry and Paul's achievement in the heavily variegated colour specials by taking both best and 2nd best champion green, their green yellow hen was runner up best champion and to complete their day they also took the award for runner up clear. Also winning a trio of awards, including best and 2nd best variegated was Tony Carline, Tony also scooped the best Vari cinnamon award and 4th and 5th best champion in show. For my part I enjoyed a great start to my show season taking best champion clear and third best champion in show with a tidy clear yellow hen, it was a good day on the bench for me with the majority of the team in the cards in some well supported classes.

Competition in the Novice section was again fierce, to attract an entry of over 250 birds is hugely encouraging and although unable to match his achievememt of best in show last year Graham Holdsworth once again benched a strong team, taking best and 2nd Best Heavily variegated, winiing three of the four classes, and 5th best novice. P Glover took a couple of colour sepcials and 3rd and 7th best novice and J Timperely completed the round up with best White and 4th best novice.
