The Second Midland Fife Fancy Canary Club attracted a total of 960 birds with the top champion award and best in show going to Gerald Spencers very tidy heavily variegated yellow hen (pictured below, left and centre), best novice (pictured right), completing a trio of colour specials was won by Gary MacBeath.
Once again the Midlands guys and girls put on an outstanding show, with 43 Champion Exhibitors and 21 Novices competing for the top awards. Geralds hen took the top award in a fiercely competitive champion entry with 675 birds entered and many of the first 16 champion classes having over 30 birds in them. The remaining colour specials were well split with Smith & Evans tidy buff hen (pictured below left) taking the top clear award and a lovely self green buff hen (pictured below right) taking the Green champion special. Once again Tony Carline had a great show taking both the variegated (pictured below centre) and cinnamon colour specials, Clarke and Gillott completed the colours taking best champion allied to white.
My own team did well, two of my three variegated yellow cocks were placed 4 and 6 in a class of 34, my self Green buff hen was 6 in a class of 35, my heavily variegated yellow hen was 7th in a class of 34 my variegated cinnamon hen won her class and my variegated white cock was 2. A special mention also to the husband and wife partnership of Marlene and Jim Gibson who took 2nd best Heavily Variegated and 2nd and 3rd Best Self Green champion awards.
Gary Macbeath dominated the novice section of 278 entries, taking best novice (pictured below) three colour specials, best variegated, best green and best allied to white, 3rd Best Heavily Variegated and 2nd and 3rd Best Novice Cinnamon. The remaining colour specials were won by N Willis (Clear Buff picture below), S Mahon, Heavily Variegated and Mr & Mrs J Hoof's best cinnamon.
