Dear Friends of MaGaZiNe yEtU,

A very exciting thing has happened. On November 21st, 2011, Andy Johnson the Executive Assistant of the Johnson County Board of Supervisors placed four holidays on the schedule to be voted into law as official Johnson County Holidays. These holidays include: Kwanzaa http://www.officialkwanzaawebsite.org/index.shtml [Monday, Dec. 26th, 2011 to Jan. 1st, 2012] a celebration honoring the African heritage of African Americans and teaching positive images to our youth; Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day [Monday, January 16th, 2012] http://www.thekingcenter.org/ honoring the life legacy, achievements, and dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.; African American History Month [February 2012] http://www.africanamericanhistorymonth.gov/, honoring the rich culture, accomplishments and heritage of people of African descent in America, and around the world who inspired the changes we now have today; Juneteenth – National Freedom Day http://www.juneteenth.com/ [Tuesday, June 19th, 2012 to June 25th, 2012] honoring the conditional end of human slavery in the United States of America [the condition being that people convicted of a crime are still considered slaves per the 13th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution] without these events all non-white people would still be forced to work for free in the U.S.A. There will be a vote by the Johnson County Board of Supervisors, as well as a presentation or speech by a person in the community that will be accepting the written proclamations by Johnson County on behalf of the local community. There will be a separate proclamation issued for each holiday. Please be present at the Johnson County Administrative Building, 913 South Dubuque Street, Iowa City, Iowa
