New York New York Resort & Casino Las Vegas. What you need to know!

The Grid Report

Gambling!

Plenty of slots & video poker. Over 2,000 machines. At just over 84,000 Square Feet of gaming it’s rather small by strip standards. But seems much larger due to the huge main floor area it has. They still have a few giant slot machines that pay out on $1.00 slot tokens. A dying breed in this era of Ticket in Ticket out (TITO) but a cheap souvenir nonetheless!

Only 80 Table & Poker Games. After all the place is smaller than most. All your basics; Blackjack, 3 Card Poker, Baccarat, Craps, Let it Ride, Roulette etc. They also have Let-it-Ride, Pai Gow Poker and more. It’s the strip, if their neighbor has it, they have it! It seems like the fancy automated craps machine is very popular here.

The Grid Report

The place is visually stunning. If you have read around on my site you know I love themes! The sad thing is, NY NY used to be even more over the top when it comes to themeing. The high limit area used to be central Park with plastic trees and all. There was even a bridge over water on the casino floor. But the blowhards at MGM ripped all this out. What they couldn’t do away with is the restaurant area. Themed to the max! Giant building, faux Times Square, a roller coaster that runs through it and even man hole covers on the ground. Although these no longer belch steam like they used to. The 150’ replica of the Statue of Liberty is still here though along with a 300’ long 50’ high Brooklyn Bridge!

Helpful Hint. This is the last place in Vegas with an M Life kiosk set up where you can swipe your own card and see how many points you have earned, or check your express comps. Very handy!

In my ever dying quest to bring you all the news you don’t need to know, here are the buildings that make up the facade.

The Empire State Building

The Century Building

The Seagrams Building

The 55 Water Tower

The Lever House Soap Company

The Municipal Building

The AT&T Building

The Chrysler Building

The CBS Building

The New Yorker Hotel

The Liberty Plaza

The Ziggurat Building

What’s to eat?

Plenty to choose from here. This place probably has the most diverse food selection in town. We always go to Fultons for some breaded cod. Its insanely good, and pretty cheap. Ben & Jerrys stopped selling Boston Cream Pie ice cream so they no longer get my business. Pretty much any food place in there over looks something neat, so we always enjoy our time in NY NY.

Tip: Nine Fine Irishmen has a second floor balcony that extends out to the outside on the strip. Great views and people watching from here.

And don’t fall for the Sporting House ruse. It was once a mighty ESPN Zone, but when those failed they renamed it.

To simplify your selection the following have been rated for value.

As Vegas eateries change almost hourly you might want to double check if these places are still in operation. This blog is very lazy with updates...

Hotel

Most of the rooms are small. And all elevators are spread out all over the place due to the goofy, if not awesome, skyline theme of hotel room construction.

The Room Basics

The standard rooms at New York New York are tiny. Just like in New York! I mean really small. Think 300 SQFT. It all depends on which tower you get, some are up to 400 SQFT. We were stuck in the Chrysler Building with a view of nothing. Literally, nothing. We opened up the curtains and saw most of a brick wall, with just a peak at some roller coaster supports behind it. We did get some sunlight, and it did make us feel like we were in the big city. But over all it was a disappointment. The room itself was fine. Small, but clean and modern. The bathrooms were small as well, but fully functional.

What you need to know.

Resort fees! Come on it’s an MGM property, you think they are going to let you off the hook when they know they can take $20.00 off you every day?

In closing:

New York New York is a blast. The slot selection is limited, and its hard to get on a table at peak times. But everyone seems to be having fun in here. The whole place just makes me smile, until I had to get back to my shitty little room. The eats are top notch but the pool is nothing to go bonkers over. Its wet and visually its OK but not in the top 10 list in town.

What else you need to know?

They do have a Spa (Spa @ NY) & plenty of great themed bars. Coyote Ugly & the Bar at times square and don’t forget the giant, although pricey, roller coaster!

Major attractions.

As Vegas shows change almost hourly you might want to double check if these are still in operation. This blog is very lazy with updates...

Broadway Theater. It was hosting Dancing Queen when we were there last, but it seems like a new show is popping up all the time.

Cirque Zumanity. We saw it once, and I don’t think we would come back. Its more of an adult Cirque show, with adult themes. It was funny and raunchy, with glimpses of flesh. But outside of a few circus acts nearly topless it was kind of boring. It seems the cast gave their all, and everyone was very good at what they do, but we left the theater wondering what we just saw. Not that we are idiots, but the show, overall, was forgettable.

What did a hundo get us?

We played through five $20.00 bills on various machines. If we bet $1.00 a spin, we give em 20 spins and cash out. $2.00 per spin is 10 spins. If you can’t wrap your brain around this math, please do not gamble. I am sure this test of the slots is insanely scientific. But your actual millage may vary.

1st machine: $100 of Nothing. $1.00 Max Bet. Cashed out with $0.00. Apparently, for us, it was nothing.

2nd machine: 5 line 10 times pay. $1.15 Max Bet. Cashed out with $20.00 on the money Major hit none. 10 times cherries for 60 credits.

3rd machine: Munsters . $0.90 Bet. Cashed out with $28.40 Major hit none This is pretty much the only nickel game we play in Vegas, slow and steady come the hits.

4th machine: China Shores. $0.90 a spin. Cashed out with $11.30 Major hit, nothing really. A few close calls but this machine is always hit or miss.

5th machine Spin & Win. $3.00 a spin. Cashed out $35.00 Major Hit Instant Spin! 2 spins $10.00 + $25.00

Total results. Turning $100.00 into $94.70 in 30 minutes seemed pretty easy. Assuming my math is correct, NY NY pays pretty fairly.
