14 months ago, our daughter Shaelyn bought a 1972 Plymouth Valiant (with a 225 Slant 6) from our friend and neighbor, Paul Smith. Shaelyn (then age 17) had admired the car ever since I drove her by it 14 years ago. With Paul's help, we thought
we would have it running in a few weeks, maybe a few months. The project turned in to a life experience for Shaelyn and the entire family. Late last fall, after we put the car on the road with Shaelyn giving rides at her Mom's birthday party, we hatched a plan to drive the car to Carlisle this coming summer for the annual Carlisle National Car Show.
Two things need mentioning at this point ... the car was (and still is) not done ... and Carlisle is about 2500 miles away - on the opposite end of the country from our home near Spokane, WA.
So why choose to drive the car so far away to a car show?
37 years ago, when I was going to grad school in Philadelphia, I met a paralegal named Lisa Evans. She had been born and raised in Carlisle. We were married in Carlisle, in 1980, but left the east coast shortly after that. We have been back many times to visit family and friends.
Last fall, Shaelyn and I visited to check on Lisa's mom, and just happened to be there for Carlisle Event's Fall Swap Meet. We went for a day to check it out .... picked up some vintage literature on Shaelyn's car. Noticed that there was not that much Mopar representation ,,,, asked one of the vendors about it ... and they told us that is because they have an all Mopar show in each summer.
The hook was set ....
