Braces aren’t exclusively worn by kids and teens. Adults could consider having braces for many different reasons. Nowadays, everyone has a number of choices to achieve their best smile.

An adult may decide to have braces to correct their shifting teeth. Wearing braces during teenage years isn’t a guarantee that the teeth won’t move with age. Braces are used to line up crooked teeth, which could be bending in different directions.

Better oral health is another reason adults consider having braces even late in life. Straight teeth are easier to brush and floss, and if one is doing their part in keeping teeth in great health, one can expect to have less decay and healthier gums.

Braces can help a person manage a few more serious issues like bite problems leading to jaw pain. An individual may also be required by their dentist to have braces to change the position of their teeth prior to getting a new bridge, implant, or crown. Other reasons for adults to consider having braces are protruding teeth (overbites), underbites, deep bites, jaw asymmetry, facial asymmetry, and excessive spacing between the teeth. Some adults, meanwhile, could find metal braces unappealing. They may be concerned that having braces could have an effect on their work and social lives. Treatments such as clear aligners are transparent pieces of custom-molded plastic that sit over the teeth and slowly shift them.
