During Business Hours
If a fire alarm is activated during business hours, the branch must be evacuated.
The manager or supervisor in charge can remain in the building briefly to determine whether or not it is a false alarm.
NOTE: Birds, balloons, and cotton candy machines have been known to set off fire alarms. If it is a false alarm and you successfully reset the alarm, contact Johnson Controls and the Fire Department (911) to let them know it was a false alarm.
If you determine it is not a false alarm, evacuate and wait for HFD. Contact your immediate supervisor or the Neighborhood Library Office and let them know about the situation.
Once the HFD clears the building, let your supervisor and Neighborhood Library Office know that the building has been cleared.
The City Electrician needs to come to the building to assess whether the building is safe to re-open.
7.6.2. After Hours
If you receive an after-hours call that states "we are receiving trouble on . . . ," more than likely a power outage has occurred. Check the building in the morning to be sure that the alarm has re-set itself. If not, then contact GSD through Sproket to get the maintenance company out to check the system. You may need to contact a GSD supervisor for more immediate action.
If you receive a call stating that "we have received a fire alarm," then the monitoring center needs to dispatch the fire department. A key holder will need to respond to answer any questions and complete an incident report.
