During Business Hours
Burglar alarms are rarely set off during business hours. The burglar alarm system is deactivated upon an employee's entrance to the building when that employee enters a security code into the system.
During those rare instances when the burglar alarm is activated during business hours, it is usually a malfunction.
Enter an employee's code to deactivate the alarm. If that procedure fails, contact GSD immediately via telephone or Sprocket. You may need to contact Library PFD as well.
After-Hours
After-hours burglar alarm activations are of three types: Motion Sensor, Glass Breakage, and Door Entry.
When you are called by the monitoring center
Ask them to contact the GSD Security On-Call Investigator (832-316-1942) or the Police (or both) to see if there has been an entry, glass breakage, or a door left unsecured. If the On-Call Investigator is called, they will contact Black Hawk Security to check the building.
The officer should make a report and the monitoring center should call you back.
If no entry or damage was detected, you can wait until morning to check for problems.
If you are called back and told that an entry has been detected, glass (window/door) has been broken, or a lock has been damaged, a key holder will need to secure the building.
The security officer will wait on site for the staff member’s arrival, and will clear the building. Security will usually contact the police if there has been an obvious break in.
One does not have to accompany the officer inside the building while it is being cleared.
Unsecured Door
Reset the alarm and then secure the door.
You can wait until morning to write the incident report.
Door Entered
Once you arrive, the officer and/or police will need to clear the building.
Make sure no items are missing.
If items have been stolen, call the police (if they haven't already been called).
Wait for the police to arrive and make a report.
Then you can reset the alarm and secure the door.
You can write the incident report first thing the next morning. Make sure you receive a HPD incident number and include it in the incident report..
If no items have been stolen, reset the alarm and secure the door.
Glass Breakage or Lock Damage
Once you arrive, the officer and/or police will need to clear the building.
Then you will need to identify the damage or breakage
Contact GSD Security On-Call Investigator (832-316-1942). They should contact GSD for someone to come and board up the windows/doors to make sure the building is secure.
The security officer or the GSD security officer wait with you until the building can be secured. Again, check the building to see if anything is missing.
Call the police and get an incident number even if items are not missing.
You must stay at the building until it can be secured.
Complete an Incident Report.
Communication Errors: If you get a communication error after hours, be sure to let GSD Security know the next work day so that a technician can come and change the schedule for communication checks.
