The Hawthorn Park Home Owners Association Board of Directors met Thursday, March 27th, at 7:00 PM at Palma Sola Botanical Park. Following the usual reports there were two topics of discussion:
1) Ficus tree removal – There are a number of ficus trees on HOA owned property that have become a problem as their roots are have invaded private property and are causing damage to home foundations, swimming pools, and sidewalks. Bids were taken and the lowest bid for removal and related services including cleanup and replacement with less invasive trees came in at approximately $3500/tree. The reserve fund stands at $56,000 so there would be no special assessment for this project. Most of the offending trees would be removed this year with the remaining five being removed next year. The total cost (I don’t have the exact figure) would be approximately $40,000. The board approved this project unanimously.
2) Bulk cable TV – The bulk cable TV contract ends at the end of December. There was debate on whether we wanted to continue with the bulk rate or to modify the Association covenants so that the Association would no longer be responsible to seek bids and home owners would be able to choose their own cable service. After considerable discussion of the pros and cons it was decided to form a committee to study the options. The findings will be presented to the Board at a future meeting. If it is decided to change the Covenants a 2/3 majority vote would be required.
