Throughout the last decade of my career, I have been fortunate enough to be part of many organization that have helped me build strong professional and personal ties with like-minded people. I truly believe professional organizations can be a vital lifeline for coalition building and making an impact.
Of the board and associations I have affiliated myself with, my time as a Commissioner on the City of Bryan's Planning & Zoning Commission stand out to me most. I was unanimously appointed to P&Z by the City Council. I appreciate this designation as it is a testament to the disciplines I learned in the Land & Property Development program. This appointment also validates my ability to integrate knowledge and experience in affordable housing and infill development.
Additionally, the year I spent in Austin, Texas is highlighted by my selection into the Leadership Austin Emerge program. Since 1979, the Emerge program has been a lab for development catering to rising leaders in their profession and community who are eager to grow. The relationships I formed with Leadership Austin still impact my life.
Performing due diligence necessary to vote on local development plan approvals, proposed site plans, variances, and a multitude of development programs including submitted land use applications and fostering a team approach to decision making.
Make regular recommendations to City Council on all development topics including infill development programs and regulatory process related to the number of unrelated individuals allowed to live in a single-family home.
Appointed by City Council to oversee the ~$1M CDBG budget and programs. Regularly meeting with city staff to discuss ongoing affordable housing development programming
Work in a team capacity representing the City for long-term planning including encouraging Chapter 380 development agreements for infill development.
The Strategic Planning Committee was composed of 30 individuals who represented a cross-section of our community - district administrators, teachers, parents and community professionals.
