My career has been anything but linear, and I am ok with that. I would not change anything.
In 2013, armed with Urban Land Institute information that Austin was America's number one real estate market combined with my personal research and proposals, I moved to the Capital City. Eager to begin my career working for a real estate development company, I applied for several open positions. After multiple interviews and no offer, I pivoted to applying for Commercial Real Estate Brokerage roles. I again could get in the door, but was just too inexperienced in the industry to earn an offer letter. In April 2013, I earned my Texas Real Estate license through the Texas Real Estate Commission. In October 2013, I launched Comfortably Living Realty with a plan of raising capital for real estate investing. Little did I know, I was in for the ride of my life.
Over the past nine plus years as the Founder and Managing Member of Comfortably Living, I have built relationships with investors, builders, contractors, as well as state and local officials. After going through some rough early stages as a business owner, I opted to move back to Bryan in 2014 when I accepted a position with the Affordable Housing Corporation. I worked on the development team for Falls Creek Ranch a 25 home single family development. Within a year, I was back on my own, thinking I was ready to scale my own personal practice. This time I added real estate development consulting to my disciplines with an emphasis on affordable housing finance.
From 2015-2018, I worked extensively within the city of Bryan establishing myself as a voice and stakeholder for all issues in the real estate development world related to affordable housing development. I served two terms on the City of Bryan Community Development Advisory Committee overseeing Community Development Block Grant Funds. I later was appointed by Bryan City Council to serve on the Planning & Zoning Commission after successfully managing the campaign of the newly elected councilman of the inner city single member district.
My private practice also gained steam as I was able to broker complicated land transactions for infill developments and joint ventures for affordable housing construction projects. During this time I struggled to structure deals that included my entity in the distribution of funds. My consulting and facilitation was at times left out when funds were exchanged. I gain experience in deal-making from this. To date, I continue educating and representing first time home buyers as a real estate broker. I also lead my own single family redevelopment projects, primarily purchase, renovate, refinance, and hold transactions as I build my own portfolio of properties through Comfortably Living, LLC.
