The MLPD program presented me with the challenge of evaluating the latest knowledge and innovations in sustainable development to ascertain how property value and returns can be maximized. Prior to my time in the program, I would have never been able to speak to the micro functions facilities management, innovation and design, or even materials play in the role of creating a sustainable real estate development.  

At it's core, development that considers the environmental impact of its actions is sustainable development. The Sustainable Development (LDEV 671) course in the MLPD program introduced me to incentives such as tax abatements cities offer for development that build to LEED standards. I personally take a liking to transit oriented development which helps to lessen the impact of emissions from the cars we drive each day. This kind of smart growth saves natural resources as well. I have included a summary of the topics we covered in the Sustainable Development course below.
