ArcoBubble refers to the unique system of thinking and world view that emerges at Arcosanti as a result of many factors that make Arcosanti unigue.
Here are some factors may influence the ArcoBubble effect:
Geographic isolation - in terms of the fact that most people living at Arcosanti do not get out much but stay within the confines of the ArcoBubble.
Aesthetic influence - as in considering the effect of the heavy concrete and embellishments developed by Soleri over the years such as the silt casts
Arcology Worldview - put together by Soleri and his appointed assistants and packaged to Arcosanti primarily through the School of Thought discussions
NaturePhobia - a common malady that moderns struggle with that relates to our isolation around urban environments and structures. Oddly enough even in rural environments like Arcosanti we seem to avoid natural amenities distracted by the contrivances of modern life and our own petty noise which keeps us from enjoying and experiencing nature
The ArcoBubble Effect is actually can be dystopian and is converse of the idealized version of the "Urban Effect" that Soleri puts forward and leads us to aspire towards the Utopian Impulse. That is the believe that we moving towards a higher level of human intensity and potential within the city. One pitfall of the ArcoBubble Effect is it renders us unable to critically analyze Arcology and to encourage us to formulate our own ideas and solutions to the problems to stimulate a healthy human dynamism within the movement.
The ArcoBubble also leads us to use this idea of "being less bad" or what Soleri terms a "Better Kind of Wrongness" as a tool to rationalize the lack of real innovation and dynamism at Arcosanti towards the ideal of being a center for the Ecological Design/Appropriate Technology movement.
We can see the ArcoBubble Effect as a mimicking of GroupThink patterns of behavior that are counterproductive to our often stated goals and values.
