Gene Zellmer proposed his own version of Arcology and called it a 500 year town. He sought to create high density house but with many of the the attributes typically associated with low density construction. His urban design model which would de-emphasize the automobile, and make both urban and rural amenities directly available to town residents. "A Town Primarily for People" describes the desirable future and historic features of this entirely new type of town. With drawings and text the book describes how it can be done, and how it reduces impacts on water, air, transportation and farmland; even within existing historic downtowns. According to Zellmer, the town actually functions in harmony with nature, like a living organism [1].
