Soleri’s Omega Seed Hypothesis is a subset of Arcology that seeks to lay the scientific and philosophical groundwork for making the intellectual case for the Arcology Manifesto. It is a grand unifying theory (GUT), because it seeks to explain life itself within a universal context. While in a time scale it is concerned with the evolution and or the duration of life from the origin the big bang to the culmination the big crunch it is also concerned with the levels of human perception. Implicitly within Soleri’s bubble diagram is the idea that we must evolve past or beyond the politically correct bubble and expand into the larger historical, ecological and cosmic bubbles. The premise though of Soleri’s eschatological hypothesis is similar to big bang theory—that the universe is contracting, and that human evolution is somehow tied to this process of contraction that culminates in “the big crunch.”
Archotypes found in nature have essential meaning, metaphors that are like puzzle pieces that when put together properly can help us to understand the origins of life and the processes by which life is sustained on a more esoteric and symbolic level.
Chaos
Inanimate atomic reality
Gaia
emergence of complex biological systems
Eros
Emergence of human consciousness
Transcending the material
Developing total recall of not only the past but also seeing the interconnectivity of life as it manifests in the present
So as we evolve, we densify into more layers of complexity and in that process are able to pack more data, information and culture within a certain area. Similar to Moore's Law as it relates to the exponential growth of computing capacity but applying to the development of human habitats.
What's unique about his evolving ideas centering on Arcology is this idea that while life does appear to have a purpose or direction it is the human will that will determine that direction. So denies the idea of a God that is driving things and leaves it in the hands of humans to determine their own destiny. He denies that he is reductionistic but rather a minimalist. While there is no original creator reality through in the process of becoming, Soleri says the human will can manifest into and towards a divine end--a god consciousness. He sees increasing complexity as the key that is driving a higher biological consciousness that is culminating in a advanced high culture that is able to digest the complexity of the universe so as to sustain its existence by using technology to miniaturize it "built" reality therefore allowing for an increasingly integrated and efficient use of resources.
A continuation of the legacy of linear and one dimensional human thought that limits our ability to see the world and is only possibly when we continue to worship sacred cows and not challenge that part of us which is gravitating towards those alluring objects of desire.
To see life as dynamic and made up of non-linear domains opens the path to many possibilities and experiences many of which may be nonhuman.
Who is to say that some advanced species in a planet very distant from us has not already done what Soleri posits is a possible scenario for humanity's future? The problem with the eschatological component of Arcology theory is that it accepts anthropocentrism--the idea that humanity is at the center of not only earthly reality, but universal reality. Although the idea was refuted by Galileo in the renaissance period, humanity still embraces the idea that we are center of the universe, because we have not had absolute proof to make us think otherwise.
OMEGA SEED MODIFIED
Our definition of awareness and consciousness suits our own human perceptions and understandings, however we are not alone as some would like to think. We are surrounded by objects and phenomena that exist in a realm of their bound by an order of understanding and memory that is quite different than ours, but basic to sustaining the dynamism that gives our reality the stability by which we need to survive as physical encapsulations of a spiritual consciousness.
It is interesting to note that while Soleri in one of his essays relegates meditation into his category of what he dubs the grand delusions. Meditation is seen by many as a key porthole that can transport beyond ourselves and human centered perceptions so as to understand the power forces that sustain the universe, and that are elemental ingredients that bond us all together in what is called spirit energy a remnant of the fact that we are all ancient, scattered parts of the singular essence of universal creation--the will to be, and what Soleri sees as the becoming though without any spiritual connotations.
The God-consciousness contrary to how it has been commonly been seen is not of human form, it may however have sought to communicate itself to people in a human form. Other humans may have transcended human consciousness to such an extent so as to merge with this God-consciousness. Human centered perceptions of reality (Anthropocentrism) cloud our perception of the universal unifying spirit consciousness, however this does not negate a reference to a emergent consciousness which and shall sustain the evolution of the universe.
Soleri denies his intuitions by denying the spirit within--that which drives him as a unique creative person is also within us all. Such a metaphysical equation or scenario usually leads to the prophet or visionary misinterpreting their intuitive realizations. How we tap into that energy collectively as a species will determine the future of humanity. The creative and intuitive forces within us exist not out of chance occurrence, but out of the fact that we are all in essence ONE. The universe has exploded from that kernel of consciousness now commonly called the big bang.
While the Buddhist concept of meditation the process of concentration to develop elevated states of mindfulness and higher altered states of Awareness which eventually culminate in what is referred to in the Buddhist faith as Nirvana are relegated to the Arcology/Omega Seed refuse heap--the grand delusions--they represent a striving which is found in many religions and is quite similar to the evolutionary strivings of the Omega Seed eschatology.
When does the God Consciousness emerge?
A relevant question and I would infer that the answer is at the point of Omega Seed realization. However The Omega Seed modified sees that by becoming a evolutionary element we can serve as medium from which the process of human development can be furthered and expanded so that we can merge once again into the divine from which we emerged and were birthed from. The essential programming that sustains the life giving attributes of the cosmos is always with us, we can neither create or destroy it any more than we can create or destroy energy.
Archetypes in nature can be seen as puzzle-pieces that explain the deeper workings of the universe and can be seen as useful to a deep exploration of the phenomenology of the cosmos and mysteries of what life is about.
