A common mistake parents make in rearing their children is not bringing them to the dentist at the appropriate age. In not doing so, they run the risk of the kids suffering from some form of dental issues later in life. A visit to the dentist every six months is recommended, but these ages are the critical stages:

One year old
Contrary to what most parents are doing, children should not be brought to the dentist when they are well over two years old. As a matter of fact, by the time they celebrate their first birthday, the dentist should have already seen them, even if their teeth have not grown enough yet. The first visit is typically about learning the foundation of oral health. Parents are taught how to care for their kids’ teeth and manage oral habits, such as thumb sucking.
Four years old
At age four, children might have developed bad oral habits, such as chewing on fingers or thumbs and inability to brush their teeth properly. A visit to the clinic can help correct these practices and allow the dentist to have a look at how the teeth are growing.
Seven years old
During this time, the first molars usually erupt, and the baby teeth are starting to give way to permanent teeth. Another dental evaluation should be done on the children so that possible problems can be detected early on.
