People have different beliefs when it comes to dental care. Myths such as making an aspirin paste to

prevent toothache and not brushing the gums to prevent irritation are some of those. While these habits might not cause serious damage, it's more important to practice dentist-approved methods to keep pearly whites in their best condition. Below are some dental care habits people of all ages should always practice:

1. Brush teeth at night

Before going to bed, be sure to brush teeth to prevent plaque and germ buildup. While it's safe to brush twice a day, brushing at night cleans all the dirt that accumulated during the day. It also gives a refreshing feeling that will aid sleep.

2. Brush the gums and the tongue

Those who are in a rush often forget to brush their gums and tongue. However, this extra step is very important to make sure that the mouth is really clean.

3. Don't forget to floss and use mouthwash

While flossing can be a tedious step, it is necessary to clean hard to reach places and remove dirt that brushing can't. As for using mouthwash, not only does it freshen the breath, it also lessens the mouth's acid content that can prevent harmful bacteria.

4. Drink water

People are cautioned to control their sugar intake for better dental health. However, most people overlook the importance of drinking water. A glass of water before brushing can effectively get rid of the dirt and acid. It also keeps the breath fresh.

Instead of finding more advanced ways to maintain the teeth, having the right habits will help a person preserve a healthy smile for longer.
