Weaving Exhibit and items for Sale
Diablo's exhibition of handwovens is currently showing at the Orinda Library Gallery. There will be a reception and celebration of the Guild's 65th anniversary at the Orinda Library Gallery on Sunday November 5. The exhibit runs through Thursday November 30, 2017.
Works that are for sale are labeled with a price. If you're interested in making a purchase, send an email to diablo@cnch.org and include which piece interests you. You will be contacted with instructions.

Diablo Weavers Guild meets in Walnut Creek, usually on the third or fourth Friday of the month from September through June, 10:00 am until noon or a little later. We do not meet in July and August.
New members and guests are welcome.
In September, December and June we meet at a member's home. Other meetings are usually held at the Thurman Casey Library in Walnut Creek (Ygnacio Valley Library).

Dues for the 2017-18 year, September - June, are $30 per person; $40 per family. If joining half way through the year, dues are $15.

“Coton Jaune, A Cajun Love Story”
This month’s program features a 37 minute documentary film about Acadian Brown Cotton, by Sharon Gordon Donnan and Suzanne Cahillot Breaux.
The Acadian people, origially from France settled in the Canadian wilderness in the 1800’s. Afterwich many migrated down to the bayou areas of Louisiana, where they were able to raise the colored cotton that was a mainstay of their weaving.
This film documents the history, tradition and artistry of handspun and handwoven Acadian brown cotton blankets and the Cajun women who made them. The film makers tell the story from hand selected seed to cherished family heirlooms.

Backstrap Loom Weaving Demonstration & Textile Sale
Saturday & Sunday,
November 18-19 11:00am-2:00pm
Masterful Guatemalan weaver, Bertina López Cumez will be demonstrating backstrap loom weaving techniques at this special event held at the Hearst Museum. Try your hand at weaving while getting to speak one-on-one with a talented artist and maker. Bertina will be joined by her daughter Mélissa who will also be demonstrating.
In addition to the demonstration, textiles made by Bertina and her community members will also be available for purchase.

From Charlene Woodcock, who spoke to our guild about the Jolom Mayaetik textiles:
I’m happy to say I received this morning three packages of the textiles I picked out from the Jolom Mayaetik weavers’ cooperative in Chiapas last month. Some of the weavers are experimenting with new color combinations, both in shawls and huipiles. Weavers from Chamula, where they keep sheep and process the wool for their weaving, have designed new little wool purses in the shapes of fruit—a pineapple, watermelon slice, strawberry. The cooperative has begun a new program called Tejedoras Maestras in which six master weavers mentor and guide some of the younger weavers. The fruits of that effort were shown at a house party in Mexico City last month to raise financial support for the program.
International Terminal of the San Francisco Airport Museum
A beautiful exhibition of the textiles of Jolom Mayaetik is now on display in the International Terminal of the San Francisco Airport Museum. It will be up until next April. It’s easy to reach by taking BART directly to the airport.
