Dorset Buttons

Reba will lead us in a program about making Dorset Buttons and we will be making one of our own. Please bring scissors, otherwise everything will be provided to make one button.

Here are the details from Reba:

I will bring the materials, for 1 button each, that are required (except scissors), but if folks want to bring their own supplies, here is the list:

*********************************************************

1" diameter (or larger) plastic ring(s)

4 to 5 yards of yarn, pearl cotton, etc (length depends on size of ring!)

A tapestry or blunt tip needle

Scissors - please bring your own

*********************************************************

I will have a handout for everyone.

See the link below for some information about these buttons, their history and how to make them.

Snack for February: Mary-Helen B.

We have dates for our upcoming meetings through June:

Future meetings are now planned and include a program on Wedge Weave, a presentation by our local study group--sharing our projects so far, and a program about hand-knotted carpets.

In June our luncheon will be at Maureen's home. Don't forget about your "picnic project" for the year, "Make it Work". Use the 5/2 cotton you received earlier to design anything you wish, a woven project or something else is fine. Just be sure and use some of each of the three colors.

Friday March 27, 2020 -

Debora Corsini will be giving a program on Wedge Weave. See the link below to her web page:

Experienced Loom seeking new home -

Bought from the Yarn Depot years ago, still in great shape. Beautifully detailed wood, lovely to look at. I have not discovered the loom maker, possibly from Oregon.

A few details: - counterbalance - 4 shafts, 6 treadles - approximately 40” wide - two back beams, one regular, one sectional - the loom folds up, front and back - a tension box for sectional warping

This lovely, well cared for loom is available for pick-up in San Francisco. Asking price of $400.
