Recent trends in handmade oriental rugs

from traditional rug weaving centers

Leon Mayeri, owner of Golden Age Oriental Rugs in Berkeley, will give a presentation on recent trends in handmade oriental rugs from traditional rug weaving centers. In these areas - which include India, Iran, and Afghanistan - rugs are still woven by hand, with rigourous attention to detail and a broader range of design than ever before. Ironically, its no longer just the weaving and knotting of a rug that makes it appealing. A variety of surprisingly useful and relevant input methods have emerged, as the process of completing and finishing a rug has taken on a more important role in the production chain.

Voices in Cloth 2016

East Bay Heritage Quilters biannual show, Voices in Cloth 2016, is March 19-20 at the Craneway Pavillion in Richmond. Vendors, exhibits and demonstrations are featured. Japanese Bamboo Art

"Modern Twist", an exhibit of contemporary Japanese bamboo art, is March 19 -June 12 at the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art, 551 Broadway, Sonoma. Museum is open Wed-Sun (11-5).

Wonders of the World: Oscar de la Renta at the deYoung Museum

This world premiere retrospective of Oscar de la Renta's work celebrates the life and career of one of fashion's most influential designers. The exhibition will include more than 100 ensembles produced over five decades, and is presented in collaboration with the House of de la Renta and the designer's family.

The Fashion Show at CNCH 2016 is on Saturday night, April 9 from 7-9pm at the McHenry Museum. It is a walk around fashion show so each person wears their own creation or has another wear it. Diane Ayers from Central Coast Guild is in charge and she wants to include as many entries as possible. I have seen some wonderful things at our sharings at meetings and know many of you have things you could enter. There is no entry fee. It is really a fun fashion show, no runway stuff, just walk around with your vest, shawl, scarf, etc. I encourage you to enter. If you are not attending the conference you can still enter something but have to find someone to wear it. Any member of CNCH can enter the Fashion Show.

Model one item or an entire one-of-a-kind ensemble using a variety of creative techniques such as weaving, knitting, felting, dyeing, or surface design. The sky’s the limit! If you are too shy to be your own model, recruit a willing friend to join the fun. Photography will be allowed.
