Minutes of the Century Camera Club Meeting, Tuesday, Mar. 6, 2018

Ray Jacobsen kindly agreed to moderate a discussion on the following topics:

1. An analysis of the past season of Camera club activities

2. An analysis of the Camera Club participation in the Art Expo

Analysis of the season

Here are points from members of what went well:

1. Good conversation between the President and the group.

2. Lots of photos shown and good feedback/critique

3. Camaraderie of the group and welcoming of new members

4. Presentations of the types of cameras used by the members

5. Guidance freely given by more experienced members to those less so.

6. Excellent website

7. Presentation of use of some programs, techniques

8. Availability to hang photos on the wall gallery

9. The group is not overly competitive

10. Weekly meetings well attended

11. Healthy bank balance

12. Members with skills, knowledge etc. were willing to share and help others.

Here are some points regarding concerns and suggestions listed in no particular order and some suggestions have been combined

Weekly Presentations

1. Discuss new developments in photography

2. Flash drives used to present photos weekly are too cluttered. They should be on the root of the drive and not in subfolders

3. Better feedback and evaluation of the photos with more time devoted to feedback and outside people invited to evaluate/critique. Presenters should ask if they want critique or not

4. Limit the number of photos presented to less than current and create a weekly schedule of presenters

5. Possibility of having occasional themes or photo excursions

6. Help with familiarization of new members with their cameras and the basics of photography. There was also the suggestion of increasing discussions on post processing. This brought up a short discussion regarding the focus of the club and whether the name should be changed from “Camera Club” to “Photography Club”. A suggestion was made that beginners should use the vast internet resources for this. Also the possibility of having mentors attached to beginners was raised.

7. Possible joint ventures with Boca Century Village Camera Club

8. Create a Program Committee

9. It was proposed that the club may organize tutorials for those so wishing in the 3 to 4 PM spot, after the general meeting

Display Wall

10. The wall is not well advertised and needs better lighting. Suggestion made to try to move it closer to the theatre for more and better exposure. Also exposure to the Reporter should be encouraged.

Art Expo

11. Displays are not categorized

12. Logistics were well organized

13. There should be a printed list of our exhibitors include contact information as well as the possibility of creating a flyer for the Camera Club at the Art Expo.

14. Attempt to keep all photos of one member together and include their name as a title on the panels. The display panels and cages should be numbered. A discussion regarding the number of panels and their location ensued. Also, it was pointed out that with an increase in the members, there may be a limitation of the number of photos per member.

15. Continue to require photos of similar sizes by all. The maximum is 16x20 matt. Members should be more careful on the procedure of attaching photos to the matts. During the expo, some had to be re-taped. Lise encouraged all to take pride in our work and that should also include the way they were presented including proper framing, matting, cleanliness etc.

16. Have a comment book available
