Born on November 15, 1952 in Wilkes County, NC to Mr. and Mrs. Paul Wilson Harvel II. After a long weary fight against cancer, laid down to rest on Valentine's Day 2001.
From Buz Bowling:
I met Paul in the auto mechanics shop class at CHHS.
I believe his family moved to Chapel Hill when we were in 11th grade, so he was probably not well known to most folks.
I ran across him years later when purchasing some surplus vehicles from the Town of Chapel. He had become the Fleet Manager for the Town and was quite the Chevrolet fan, trying at the time to get every vehicle in the fleet to be a Chevy, myself being quite the Ford fan we had some interesting discussions.
Around 1999 or so I learned from the Town that he was ill and his work schedule was erratic, but they all seemed to like him so much that they made his schedule work for them.
I think he worked right up until he passed away in 2001.
I think his Mother still lives in town but I'm not sure of her name.
He was a really nice friend and he is still missed.
I still have a truck I bought from him (a Chevy of course).
From Dave Kistler:
Paul, known as Nick to his close friends, did not move to CH in 11th grade.
His family had been here for years.
His Mom passed away in his early twenties.
We also called him The Claw, as he had blown part of his thumb off while messing with something explosive. He would grab you, and press that knub into you until it was so painful you would give up.
He was one of the smartest guys I have ever known. He was the first person to own a PC that I knew.
We drifted apart as we grew our families. But, he was always my friend, and me his.
