December 3rd Camp work day at Camp Old Indian
Post date: Dec 1, 2016 11:24:35 PM
Hey guys,
Just a friendly reminder about our December 3rd Camp work day at Camp Old Indian
We will probably do trail maintenance/construction on Saturday Dec 3 although that may change. Other possible projects are listed below.
Mr. Shelburne (BRC Trails and Conservation Coordinator) said that he has enough trail tools for about 25 people, but If you have loppers or retractable hand saws, please bring those and label all personal equipment with your name. Also be sure to bring work gloves, lunch, and a water bottle. Dress for the weather and wear hiking boots if you have them. The forecast calls for 60% chance of rain but this is possible to change so be sure to look again before you get there.
Please try to arrive by 9 AM in the camp parking lot. We will work until 3-4 PM, but you can leave early if need be. If you do leave early please be sure to let me know so that we don't have a "missing scout."
Here are possible projects not in any order:
Tools only--no materials:
Finish trail above waterfall to primitive site
Begin work on Trail from Rock Cave (Blue) Trail to rock climbing wall
Remove fallen tree limbs in ravine on White Pine (orange) trail; hand tools OK since just upper limbs block trail
General trail maintenance--lopping in-growth; fixing trail tread--Nature trail and trail to yellow-poplar on East Perimeter trail
Move broken tent platforms in parking lot to construction dumpster
Continue English ivy removal on trees along road to waterfront
Level old adirondack site in upper Big Rock for campfire pit and benches
Remove in-grown vegetation above upper site in Big Rock for future bath house (site already level and "roughed in" but ten years of in-growth has occurred)
Dig up small (2-3 feet) wild white pines and transplant to two failures in front of camp and three other failures along road at upper Camp White Pines meadow.
Hope to see you guys there,
Thomas Roznowski Ca-Nu-Pa Chapter Chief
