Unit 1: Change

Unit Overview: Sixth grade is an extremely important year in an adolescent’s life. It is a time when many students are developing the skills sets necessary to persevere through difficult circumstances and experiences. As a sixth grader, many students are experiencing social hardships and demanding academic expectations for the first time in middle school. Students must persevere through these adverse experiences while developing a sense of self-worth.

This unit introduces the theme of “perseverance” and reveals how individuals develop the mentality to guide themselves through adversity. Students will compose an informative/explanatory essay that addresses the essential question of how an individual perseveres through hardship.
