Rising 6th Grade Summer Reading

Post date: Jun 7, 2018 1:53:04 PM

In starting a new initiative to align social studies, ELA, science and math across the curriculum all the summer reading list choices are based on one theme students will be revisiting in both social studies and ELA. Please select ONE of the following books for your student to read over the summer in order to be prepared for the first month of 6th grade. Then complete the assignment attached below.

Number the Stars by Louis Lowery

The Devil’s Arithmetic by Jane Yolen

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

Hint: Some students might benefit from listening to their book choice while following along in the book. There are some excellent online book resources such as Audible or Project Gutenberg for students that struggle with reading. All students should spend at least 30 mins of independent reading 5-6 nights a week with a book of their choice in order to improve overall academic performance.
