Tree #40

Tree #40: Comice Pear

Trees 39 and 40 are the only two Comice Pears in the Orchard, and were both planted in 2013. The Doyenne du Comice, or Comice Pear, is French in origin. It was found near Angers in 1849. The Comice Pear is part of the Common Pear (Pyrus Communis) family. The fruit from the Comice Pear tree has a fragile skin, and the fruit is sweet and juicy, and is considered a desert pear. The pears ripen in August or early October. The tree produces white blooms in mid-April.
