Tree #19: Italian Plum
Tree #19 is a nursery purchased Italian plum with grafted root stock. Planted in 2013 it produced little or no fruit until 2022. That spring all the limbs were cut back and 4 scions were bark grafted on each limb. Scions were collected from two local Italian Plum trees, one of which was grown from root stock from a plum tree in Seattle. Trees #35 and #53 are root suckers collected from this same Seattle root stock tree. Subsequent prunings have reduced the number of grafts on each limb, but the tree currently produces plums, and the fruit is usually ready for harvest in August. The Italian Plum is a late bloomer with a long growing season. They produce pink and white flowers during the later part of spring.
