Swan Creek

Swan Creek is part of the Southern Downs Shire in southern Queensland and lies about 15 kilometres east-north-east of Warwick.

The first European occupation of Swan Creek was when the Leslie Family took up the Canning Downs run in 1841. Swan Creek formed part of that run and was on the track to the outstations. In 1864 a portion of the area was proclaimed the Warwick Agricultural reserve and opened up for selection (small farms between 20 and 120 hectares).

Three hotels were built in Swan Creek during the 1860s and 1870s (one of which being the heritage listed former White Swan Inn) and in 1879 St Andrews Church of England was built. A sawmill was constructed by John Affleck near Swanfels (in the Swan Creek area) and a train station opened at Swan Creek in 1884. The School of Arts was built in 1908.

By 1911, the population of Swan Creek was 271. Swan Creek Recreation Ground was used for enlistment for WWI.

It is still known as Swan Creek and at the 2006 census the population was about 17,500.
