Hair dipped in ink

Bertha had very long hair as a child because her mother wouldn't let her cut it.

One day at school, another student took to her long hair with the ink.

"There was a boy used to give me hell with my long hair," she says.

"He sat behind me and that's when he caused all the trouble.

"In the desks they had a little place for an ink well… and he took my pigtail and dipped it in the ink."

But he only did it once.

"Once was enough, I would have killed him," says Bertha.
